Many people are hired to work behind the front desk who have little or no experience in the hospitality industry.
Front office managers are looking for people who are responsible, hard working, detail oriented but also have people skills.
In addition to being one of the first people to welcome the guest to the hotel, the front desk clerk (or guest service agent) may also have to explain why a certain room type is not available to the guest.
Often new front office workers must work the night shift for a period of time with the night auditor, so be prepared for this possibility.
In addition with interacting with guests during check-in, check-out and during their stay, the Guest Service Agent (GSA) also interacts with team members in other parts of the hotel, such as Food and Beverage, Engineering, Housekeeping, etc.
It can be a stressful job at times but it is also very rewarding job as you get to meet people from all walks of life.
If after all this you feel like you do want to pursue such a position, simply go to the hotel during the weekday between 9 and 5 and ask at the front desk. Depending on the place they may have forms available there or may direct to the Human Resources department.
Also, going to the hotel in person will give you an idea of what your daily commute will be as well as giving you a chance to check the place out for yourself to confirm it would be a place you would be proud to work at.

Hotels are part of the hospitality industry. You may need to go to school to specialize in this area. Drop in at a local place and casually ask at the desk about requirements.

Make phone calls to hotels and motels to find out if they are hiring. You can also fill out some applications for the job of front desk clerk.

I have worked (and still do) in Hotels for a few years now and many managers are not looking for hotel experience as much as customer service and computer skills...the rest can be trained as there are several different systems used in the industry you may use one at one hotel and something completely different at the next...you just have to be hardworking, dependable, willing to learn and be flexible and like I said computer knowledge and customer service experience are key!!! I recommend you fill out applications only at properties you yourself would stay at...there are a lot of questionable properties out there and you don't want to have to deal with troublesome clientele.

check the web sites for the big chains (Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott) or where ever it is that you would like to try working for. Also check with the hotels your area to see if they are hiring. Include a cover letter explaining what your salary expectations are so they know what you want from an employer.
