As a nursing student.. wouldnt a CNA have to be registered by the state in order to do your clinicals?
Asked by Leah C
Unless... a CNA is allowed to work in clinicals under the schools approval or lisence. When I was in CNA school none of us had to be registerd before stepping foot into a Long term care facility. Mabe.. CNA certificate is what is only required to the nursing schools. It is the jobs that require you to be state exam registered. Is this true?

No. There is no need to become a CNA at all to be accepted into a qualified registered nursing program. You are covered by your nursing school while you are in clinical training. Good luck with passing your state board exams.

I do believe in most states it is not required by the state because you are insured under the school. However many schools do require you hold the CNA to get accepted or to start the program. My school required you hold the certification to start the program, but if it expired while you were in the program you didn't have to renew.

Some nursing programs may require you to be a CNA to get accepted into their program but CNA certification has nothing whatsoever to do with your clinicals. Past the first semester of nursing clinicals you are doing things that CNAs are not allowed to do. You nursing school and your nursing instructor in charge of your clinicals are the ones that are responsible. It wouldn't be a bad idea to require this of all nursing students in order for them to see how it is and to possibly help them appreciate their CNAs more too when they become RNs.
