Just wondering about a line cook/short order cook?
Asked by E T
I want to get a job at a bar and grill as a cook. I have very limited verifiable work experience as a cook. ( I made and delivered pizzas while in high school) I have worked construction for the last 7 years. How can i show them that I am willing to learn something new?

The best way to show them you're serious is to be willing to take a lesser position; in this case dishwasher or prep cook, and work your way up. I wouldn't hire someone as a line cook who didn't have a lot of experience. It gets pretty intense back there and you really need to know your stuff.

In order to be a short order cook, you have to be well organized, fast, able to remember the orders, etc...... If you haven't had any experience in cooking, tell them you want to learn the skills and can take and follow directions willingly. List your best attributes, that would apply to the job ad stress your wanting to learn. Good luck!
