How long will it take to become a social worker?

I have a degree in Liberal Studies and am wondering how long will it take to take before I can become a practing social worker? What degree would I be working on? A BSW? I have a Bachelors of Arts in Liberal Studies...

For most states, you're going to need an Master of Social Work. You won't be finding many jobs that require anything less than that. If you've already got an associate's degree, you've got another 4 years of school to go.

A:
You can start your career as a social worker with a liberal studies degree and take more focus courses later for a master's, post-graduate or professional certificate. Not everyone starts out with a BSW degree, you would be surprise of the background many have.
