Would a bank hire me as a teller for just a summer job?
Asked by Trey M
I'm planning on going to college out of the city where I currently live in late august, but I want to be able to find a summer job as a teller part time. My dad says i'm wasting my time because they won't train and hire someone who is just going to leave in 3 months. Do you think a bank would hire a teller for a part time 3 month period? Also alot of the banks down here are in need for tellers, so the demand for the job is available.

I agree. Bank Tellers go through a LOT of training, not just training on bank processes, but also a lot of legal stuff as well. When I started working for a bank, it was 6 weeks of training just to begin with, as well as ongoing training over the past 4 years. I think the only way you would get employment was if you were to work part time or casually once you go back to College, ask if they are willing to let you transfer to a branch closer to college. Otherwise the bank would lose money, the cost of the training is quite expensive.

The demand of tellers is high, but your dad is right. I don't think that bank tellers is a sesonal position. They usually would want someone who can work year round. At least you can try to ask around, but I doubt it.
