I am going to school to become a medical assistant?
Asked by voluntative
I've looked in the classifieds and searched for local medical assistant jobs on the internet and theres nothing! I thought Medical Assistant jobs were in high demand? I start school in 2 weeks, but I am having second thoughts. The medical assistant program is 9 months long and cost
$12,000. Any advice?

That is the BIGGEST scam! I work in the medical field and we are always getting these graduates begging for work, but they are basically useless to us. The classes teach you a little about everything but not a lot about anything. Don't waste your money!

If you have a little more time go to school to become an Rn, you will make more money.

Please go with your gut instinct giving you second thoughts! That's a great way of thinking, in general, and especially with a $12,000 program :) The private career schools tout the profession as well as with medical billing/coding but they're having trouble finding work as well. It's a money maker ;) The schools are graduating more and more students while not having the jobs available to back up their claims (between us and the wall :)
If really wanting to take a course for MA, please go to the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non-credit course) as long as it's accredited within the industry. Perhaps one may be able to find work as a phlebotomist (drawing blood) which is taught in MA school. And please steer clear of penn foster and stratford career: http://www.ripoffreport.com and type into search.
