how tough are CNA classes to become a nursing assistant?
Asked by NYer
How tough are CNA classes (to become a nursing assistant)? I know they don't last long, but I was wondering if there's a lot of studying? I would like to take maybe 1 or 2 additional summer classes (in 2 separate summer sessions) that are pre-req's for a RN program. Can I do all this with few worries, academically speaking? I want to become a nurse (RN) down the road. I am taking the CNA classes (14 sessions) in the summer as well.

I would not say they are academical hard. But of course everyone has a different defines hard differently. The state test has a written part and a skills part. I have never heard of anyone failing the written part. There are a lot of skills to learn, and that is where most people fail. My class didn't require any studying. But it was about 12 weeks long. Some of the classes that are shorter might require some studying outside of class. I don't think taking 1 or 2 other classes will be a problem. If you want to be an RN, I think you really need to become a CNA first. I hope it works out for you! Many states use this company to test their CNAs: http://www.vue.com/

A lot of the training is common sense and repetition. Ex. Showers and bed baths are basically the same; always wash your hands- if you are not sure whether or not to wash them. If you get things easily, take all the classes. I took the class while I was in high school, on the dance team, and I did not have a problem. (I know life is harder than high school).
