That is a pretty open question and just about every retailer has created their own unique approach to how assistants are used in the store. In general I would expect that they would be responsible for maintaining the performance levels of personnel in the store and train as needed, set displays, resolve customer issues as they arrive. Be responsible for either store opening and closing procedures. They may be on call to support staff shortages. They will also be responsible for product replenishment, etc. Depending on size and other duties, they could also do some hiring, scheduling, etc.
