How to write a CV for an admin post?
Asked by Azalea
I have very basic experience in admin, but this job didn't say it was specifically looking for experience. I do have retail experience, in which I did do some admin work. I would just really like to know how I would write a covering letter and CV for an admin job. The job is Reservations Agent in a hotel.

the easiest way to do this is to write down all your key skills on a piece of paper. then read through the job description/advert and highlight everything they are looking for.
then you need to match up what skills you have that are relevant to the job and include this both on your CV and covering letter.
at a guess, the main things will probably be:
* computer literate
* good telephone manner
* good education/qualifications
* organised
* good eye for detail
* fast learner
* enthusiastic
just make sure that the relevant skills are included in your CV and highlight these in your covering letter giving reasons on why you would be suitable for this post and why you want this job!
Good luck, and follow up your application with a phone call. You will never be penalised for having too much enthusiasm so good luck again!

A CV is just a list of the qualifications you have (the Grades are ESSENTIAL, no matter how bad some people may think they are) and ALL the jobs you have EVER had.
In your covering letter you highlight parts of your current and/or previous jobs that are relevant to the job you are applying for.

A reservation agent is an entry level position at a hotel. As long as you can answer the phone with a smile in your voice and type about 35 words a min. you are fine.
You need a resume more than a CV. Highlight the experiences you have had that showed outstanding customer service, your typing speed and basic computer knowledge and WOW them at the interview.
Good Luck

Take a look at the Resume samples below. It may help you although I know there some differences between CV and Resume.
