How do I quit my first job? They just finished training me.?
Asked by Jason
A few months ago I got my first job as a housekeeper at a hospital, part-time. A few weeks later I got a second, full-time job that pays better and I love it. For a while I've kept them both, cuz I need the money, but now I dread going to the housekeeping job, cuz it's so boring compared to my other job. They really only just finished training me, but I want to quit really bad, and I just don't know how to do it right, especially since I might need it for references later, seeing as I only have a history of two jobs now. I go in to work at the hospital in a few hours, and I think I'll quit then. How should I do it?

You have only been there a few months. I wouldn't sweat it. You got to take care of you. If they wanted to toss your ass, they would have no problem showing you the door. If you really want to be nice, courtesy is 2 weeks notice. You could always ask for less hours if you are not willing to take the dive yet.

First off you want to give them a two week notice. Also, you should write a letter of resignation, that states when your last day will be and include in the letter that you appreciate that they gave you the opportunity to work for them company..blah blah blah.. this will help for future reference.

Just tell them you've found full-time work because it pays better. I would tell them first thing when you go in next time. Talk directly to your immediate supervisor and tell him or her that you're grateful for the training, but you've found a better opportunity elsewhere.

Consider Keeping both jobs longer and save some money and give yourself a head start.
Butm, as the earlier poster said, they would not think twice about laying you off. I know someone that got laid off and was a manager and was making $100,000 a year.
just came in one day, and called to see the boss, and told they were going to combine some departments...
Write a resignation letter and give them two weeks notice. Its not personal.

You should definitely give them two weeks WRITTEN notice explaining that you have truly enjoyed working there. You feel you have learned a lot, and you appreciate all the help and support you have received from your coworkers, boss, etc. State that if your schedule changes in the future, you hope there would be a possibility of working there again (even if it's not true).
