What would you do to create cohesion between cook employees and kitchen workers?
Asked by armybrat
The cook position is self explanatory. The kitchen worker position deals more with cleaning than anything else. They also help the cooks at times. There is alot of animosity between the two groups. In order for the operation to run better, both groups of employees need to work as a team. What can be done to create this cohesion?

Why is there animosity? Get rid of the animosity. Maybe you have to replace a few cooks. If the cooks fail to see their dependency on the cleaners, they really should go. You cannot afford to have discord in your work group. It is always cheaper in the long run to replace people who are egocentric and class driven. It is most likely to be something the cooks are doing to show disrespect for the cleaners. You must act decisively to demonstrate the importance of mutual respect.

I agree with what the first poster said. Usually it's the cooks/chefs who have this holier than thou attitude and treat others in the kitchen disrespectfully, but they need to realize without the people who clean, their kitchen would be a mess. And everyone is created equal. Get them all together for a drink one night so they can see each other beyond just what their job title is. They can get to know each other and then if they see each other as friends, there won't be so much head butting in the kitchen. Good luck.
