Ladies: Should I be worried about my job?
Asked by Whittaker
Why am I feeling bothered by this guy at work? And do you think he's just saying this?
Ladies: Why is this bothering me so much? Co-worker depressing me?
I work as a mail clerk at a company, I get lots of compliments, I am known for being a hard worker, but lately a co-worker of mine has been telling me some people (didn';t give names) think I'm a "goof", meaning I have made some dumb mistakes on the job. For example : One time I was going to be out for 3 days, I made the mistake of emailing the entire company that.....
And he said personnel "laughed at me".....if they laughed at me, how come they say hi to me every time I see them?
Also, I guess they might have said it because I would get things, materials at a warehouse and sometimes bring the wrong things back.......
The thing is, this same guy keeps telling me "don't stay here for more than 5 years, you probably won't move up" and stuff like that.....and I told him the truth. I am a college grad who has his own career aspirations and this is the job I like that I can support myself with and pay the bills.
But yesterday, and today he said "You can make more money"

If you like the job don't worry about him. Just because your co workers laughed at you doesn't mean it was in a bad way! Work your hardest and try to think harder before you do things so you don't make anymore dumb mistakes.

Sounds like he is trying to intimidate you into quitting your job. Does he want your job for himself or even for a friend of his? Could be.
Or he could just be a bully. Some workplaces have people who enjoy bullying other employees - just like you're all back in jr. high. How sad for him.
Just ignore his comments - don't react and maybe he'll find someone else to pick on.

You know some people like to play little games. Just stick with your plans and be careful revealing them to someone who is so loose with information.
Next time he wants to share the latest gossip he has heard about you just tell him that you heard some of the IT guys mention they were installing software to monitor how much people were really working in the company. That will keep him worried at his desk and working hard for a while.
