Help Medical Assistant or Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration?
Asked by FM
I'm unsure which to go into for training. I've been researching and it seems both fields train the same things. I know it depends on do I want to deal with patients or just do office work but I see Medical Assistants do office work and deal with patients and I saw Medical Assistant also trains in coding.. I guess I would like for someone who knows to tell me what the training is like and what the jobs are like and which pays more. Thanks

Unfortunately there are not supposed to be too many jobs for the MA, medical biller or coder despite what those private $$ schools say. There may be jobs for the phlebotomist (draws blood) which is usually taught in a MA program though. A medical coder also needs at least a couple years experience doing coding tasks as well as certification(s) in the field. My cousin works in medical billing and has been looking for a similar job for a long time now. She has about 4-5 years experience in medical billing, just fyi. If wanting to get training, please instead look at the county vo-tech school or community college (perhaps non credit course) as long as it's accredited within the industry.

Please steer clear of online, for profit schools such as penn foster, stratford, university of phoenix, strayer and others: http://www.uopsucks.com
