How long does it take State Farm to contact you after you have applied for a position?
Asked by JobSeeker
I have applied for a few positions at State Farm Insurance, and most of the positions have had application periods of a week or two. Does anyone know the average length of time it takes a recruiter to get in touch with you after the application period ends?

While I have not worked specifically with State Farm, I have worked with some large companies like them. To answer your question: 1. If you applied with a local agent, call him after about 2-3 weeks to see if there are any questions he may have. Local agencies sometimes have the ability to hire without national approval. But, I suspect you are not in this category. 2. For a national position, it is not uncommon to take up to 6 weeks for them to contact you. If you have not heard from them, again, contact the HR department in the building you applied (unless you applied online) and follow up to see "if you have any questions regarding my qualifications". You have to remember that companies like State Farm are huge bureaucracies that are sued at the drop of the hat if they violate any of their HR rules. It could very well be that the position has not closed (sometimes they will not review applicants until the application period expires [as you described in your question]), or that the HR guys have gone on vacation. The worst part about waiting is that they are not nearly in as much as a hurry as you are. This is why I always try to use "did you get my resume or have any questions" ploy as a way to try to make contact with the people that are hiring. Lastly, the one thing that can happen is that they lose funding for your position. This is always a bummer because you could be IN and then there will be something that comes up that forces you OUT. Good Luck.
I would contact them at 4-6 weeks following the time the application period ends and see where you stand.
