receptionist job.. only for the summer?
Asked by Emily H
I really want a receptionist job this summer. I am home from college and need a job. The only problem is, is that I can only stay at the company for three months seeing as I have to go back to college at the end of august. There are 4-5 places I know are hiring such as dermetology offices, dental and things like that. But I really feel they wont want me for only three months. Should I go ahead and fill out an application and see? My mom told me to look into a temp agency. But the way she explains it is that I would probably be working somewhere new every week. Is that true? Because I would really like same company the entire summer.
Also, I am wondering if I will even be HIRED as a receptionist. I am 20 and have no previous receptionist experience. I am majoring in communications thought which will look good I guess.

A temp agency will work much better. I can't imagine a company wanting to spend the time to have you learn the ropes properly, only to have you leave.
With a temp agency, you'll be offered office work (most likely filing unless you have typing skills) that are temporary assignments...a few days to a few weeks.

Ignore Jwallx's advice on faking experience. It WILL come out that you do not have the experience or skills.
That said, I would either go with a temp agency or something other than a receptionist job. It is not fair to a company to have to train you for three months and suddenly have to replace you. That is time and money spent they could have used on someone more long term. It is nice you want the experience but it's a bit rude to only state you will be there for three months.
