What is the best way to get into oilfield equipment sales?

I have been in sales for 9 years in another industry. I can not help but think that a career in the oil and gas business would be very lucrative.

I have a lot of clients in the oil industry, for the most part they are old school salt of the earth hard working guys who are making tons of money right now because they have stuck with it over the last 20 years, and people like me have stuck with them. They are the type that like to do business face to face and with a hand shake. I know people in my area of Texas that are getting into the white collar oil jobs by applying in person. Having a resume with sales experience is important, but knowing a little about the industry and how to talk to these guys is more important than anything. Id pound the pavement more than I would surf the web and smile and dial. Hope this helps.
