I am a nursing assistant but i want to find a job as a bank teller?
Asked by countrygirl
I've worked as a nursing assistant right out of highschool and now i'm 21. i'm burned out and would like to try another job. I would really like to get a job as a bank teller. How would i go about doing that? Do I go to the bank and ask for an application? and how much are they paid? Is it a good job?

Having been in the banking industry I have learned that coming in as a teller is an excellent way to start in this industry. As for looking for openings go to the bank's home page and look for a career/job link that will lead you to the postings. Most even have search functions that let you narrow down certain criteria such as location. For the most part you will be applying on line. Unfortunately as the position of bank teller is considered to be an entry level position, meaning that you do not need any special skill set, the position does not pay a lot. In my area, (Dallas, TX) the starting pay is around 10$ an hour. However you do not take these positions for the money. You do it for the opportunities that will open later. For example, a friend that I help get a job just moved from a teller position to PB or Personal Banker. They are the ones you speak with when opening accounts or applying for loans or credit cards. With her base pay and bonuses if she meets her quotas for each quarter she will be making more than me and I'm an department manager. Not bad for someone who was a waitress before becoming a teller. Good luck and I wish you the best.

Look in your local newspaper classifieds for jobs at banks in your areas. Or visit the websites of the banks themselves and most will have an "employment" link somewhere. Or yes, you can go into the bank, ask their customer service desk or a teller if they are hiring tellers and request an application. Being a teller is probably a pretty easy job but in any customer service environment there are always difficult people at times. You'll make a little better than minimum wage, so it's probably comparable in salary to a NA.
