Should I put my Executive Director job on my resume?
Asked by wvukid21
I was recently appointed as Executive Director of a division of my organization. My previous roles in the organization have been in project management and finance, and now I'm leading a human rights division. I have been in this job for a month, and I am actively looking for jobs because I jsut finished my MBA and want to get back into financial analysis or project management / procurement but in the private sector. Should I put this job on my resume?

Oh, absolutely. I did a stint as Executive Director for a local nonprofit in 2006, for about 8 months. During that time, I learned a lot about managing an office and volunteer staff, as well as making some very important networking contacts amongst government officials, and prominent local businessmen. The experience gained from such a position is very valuable, and should not be omitted.

A:
I would put that on my resume because that's impressive. But make sure you have on the resume the jobs you had that are related to the position you are applying for.

All of your experience should go into your application. Including volunteer work and skills you learned through your Masters Degree. Don't forget professional clubs you joined. Don't get too wrapped up in the "title" of your jobs. Really focus on the skills/talents/experience each experience gave you. They will be looking for very specific skills that you will need in this job opening. If you've held several positions, use this as a strength, not a weakness. Emphasize the diversity and broad spectrum with examples. Good luck.
