You will need to be tough too. The Chef that teaches you will be cussing you and throwing your food in the floor or up side of the wall calling it crap. I have been told this is how they learn. They have started hiring Chefs every where now, even the collages. The pay is great if this is your cup of tea. You really have to love what you are doing to get into this line of work. If you do decide to become a Chef remember your crew will respect you and stick with you if you treat them with respect. You do not have to cuss them to get respect.

It's the biggest rush you will ever feel. You will be stressed, angry, sad, depressed, gleeful, jubuilant... All in one minute. Chefs work long hard hours. They get yelled at and blamed for all sorts of crap. You will probably sustain at least one serious injury in the kitchen, no matter how good a chef you are. There is a reason most of the chefs I know have some sort of addiction (drugs, food, alcohol, etc.). OTOH, you can go to work and cuss (in most kitchens) and yell at each other. :)

You will make a TON of money and can pretty much write your own ticket once you achieve success, incl working in private homes. VERY high stress job, fast paced but fascinating.

the first person had it exactly right... its high stress, youll feel 10 emotions at once, you'll cuss through it all. But its fantastic. Go to school.. get your culinary degree. Become a member of the ACF and work your way up to the master chef or exec chef certifications. you'll need all of that. good luck!
