Medical biller/coder?? anyone ever trained to do this or does this for a living?
Asked by DANIELLE J
I am interested in studying to become a medical biller/coder. Is there anyone who does this for a living? If so, what is the best way for me to accomplish this goal? I know there are a million online schools for this, but are they any good? I want to get the right training that will help me have a career in this field. Any tips would be helpful. Thank you.

I have been a biller/coder for 7 years now. I would steer clear of any online schools. Check with your local community college. The best thing to do to start out would be to look for a job opening and ask them what qualifications they are looking for. I actually work for the government and was able to apply for the coding position with the medical background I had as a medical secretary, no schooling involved.

I would start by working in a medical office. I worked a bit with billing and its a thankless job. you can make good money but you have to be good at following up. Just remember anyone can bill but its the following up on your work that will make you the best. Good luck!
