i went to school for my machinist trade...it was well worth it..do not get into a mass-production machine shop...ver boring doin the same stuff every day..learn as many machines as possible...this way you have a better chanch for raises and to do other shop work..not limited to one machine day in and day out...you need lots of math background and lots of tools..also lots of measuring devices...good machinist makes good money..hope you like overtime...

You stand all day, you work on things and less times with people. If you know your stuff you can get decent jobs. You have to always be physically fit to do that work. Sometimes the work environment may be dirty, dusty or very hot. If you like to "tinker" and you like mechanical things, then it would be a great job for you.
