Can you name me some interesting fun jobs a young person can do?
Asked by Nina
Im going to uni in 2009, working in a really crappy retail job at the moment and finding it very hard to get any other kind of job until i get the qualifications. I want to spend a year doing something interesting and fun without having to have a trail of experience and qualifications. Im quite healthy and fit, a little bit shy, so nothing like holiday rep or anything. Any suggestions?

Million dollar question... do you have any hobbies that you love, is there a way you could possibly combine the two? I helped out in a charity shop for a while, it was quite fun.. getting to see all the stuff and sorting it out before anyone gets to see it is quite fun... but does wear thin.. but you are helping out... like the other people mentioned have you looked at a holiday job.. chellet girl or aupair... what I really recommend though is that you do as many hours in your crappy job as you can, and spend the summer with your mates and just enjoy it... we all have done it!

Being young i worked at a youthcentre with other young people managing activities with other workers.doing lots of indoor and outdoor activities. If you have youthcentres in your area you could enquire about something like that...although i started off as a volunteer before i got paid...and now i still work there.

Where do you live? Would you relcoate? Some ideas - work at a theme park, pay isn't the best but a lot of young people, free passes to the park and a lot of happy people - pretty easy to get a job too. Be a nanny for a family in a different city, country that you always wanted to visit - a bit harder to get but could probably get placed in at least a major US city like NY. Work in a kids program - camp, horseback riding stables, play gym, etc. Sign up with promotional companies and apply as jobs come up - that can be a lot of fun working events, etc. Apply for a cruise line job although at your age and experience only entry level job is probably possible. Work for a travel related company and get free travel benefits - even airline reservationists get free flights and hotel company reservationists free rooms - maybe the job isn't fun but the benefits are. Work for a comedy club, movie theater, playhouse, sports facility, etc - see shows or games for free as you work. Good luck, I'm sure you can find something fun and interesting to do that you will learn some new skills.
