anyone know what the average work week for a machinist is like?

like any other. Really depends on your employer. Ther standard rules apply for full time employment, like overtime pay after 40 hours, etc.
Crazy "shifts" are usually reserved for high-production factories. A small shop is not going to have morning and evening alternating shifts.
Most smaller machine-shops run a regular 8-hour day, with maybe one 10-hour day, and a Saturday once in a while.Or they have a part-timer who just comes in on Saturdays.
Plan on spending at least $100 on work shoes. This is not a job for people with cheap shoes.

(im speaking from wat my dad has told me) (hes really experianced)
its a hard job, u have to be precise and cant make many mistakes when cutting
my dad has REALLY bad feet all he does is liedown when he gets home he says its because he stands all day
but if your really good at math... geometry stuff like that
ud be a good programmer/machinist.
if U think its interesting go 4 it because it pays really good no matter how skilled technicly...
u can eather make smthin easy thats 2 bucks a peice.. program the machinre 4 2,000 peces
thats 4,000 bucks a job
or u can make acouple (or alot) of skilled peces worth 1000-500 buck make 100...
