My hubby has CDL, currently he hauls livestock, would like to work for new company. Any ideas?
Asked by Red
My husband has been a truck driver for almost 4 years, hauling livestock for 3 years. He likes to haul livestock but dislikes the company he works for. Does anyone know of any trucking companies (livestock or otherwise) that are good companies and that are hiring? Please let me know. Any info would be helpful. Thanks! (He is not an owner operator, he is a company driver)

If he likes livestock hauling, first thing I'd suggest is asking around to other livestock haulers about their companies. Get a few phone numbers, call companies, ask questions. It's how I found my job with a small company. If he happens to be in Florida, there's a company called Lake Erie Corporation in central FL. Small cattle hauling company, but the owner is a decent guy. Google the name- the contact info will come up. Also, Google "livestock transportation company"....plenty of companies will come up, and your husband can just call around and ask questions, see who's hiring. He could also get into horse hauling (race and show horses), which is a little more lucrative and a lot more "hands on" than cattle or pigs. Check out www.drexlerhorsetransportation.com or www.creechhorsetransportation.com I think it's a little dependent on where you live, as the runs tend to be between the Midwest and the South- but he could always ask the companies if they know of other horse transportation companies in your area. Otherwise, with 4 years of OTR and a good MVR, he could go just about anywhere. If he wants to be home more often, check out linehaul companies like FedEx Freight, Saia, Yellow, or Estes. The pay is excellent and he could be home every 1-2 nights. He could also check out companies like Upstaging, Broadway Express or Stage Stop- they haul for trade shows, concert tours and conventions. The pay and benefits are excellent, he'd get to meet interesting people and see concerts for free. Last I checked, the requirements for hire was 3 years OTR and some experience with fragile or "sensitive" loads. I was eligible for hire having hauled cars, so I'd bet livestock hauling would be enough to qualify him. Best of luck to your husband :)
