I cannot believe the answers that"Takgeyon & Pneumono" gave. That is an insult to all the hard working servers that deal with the general public daily. You have a good start as a busboy. Just observe the servers where you work & you will have the general idea of what you need to do. You have to be observant, patient, friendly, clean, neat, be able to multitask, know your product, be honest, clever, get along with fellow staff, ambitious, quick, and most of all know how to satisfy your customer. These are only some of the things necessary to be a good server. You must also know the menu. MY God there is so much to know. These things just cratch the surfice. I've waited tables for years & take personal offense when someone makes statements that have been posted. Ask questions thats the best way to learn...

If you can breathe you can be a waiter. Just have confidence when you interview.

It depends on where you are...most places though need you to be certified to serve drinks. In Ontario it is known as your smartserve.
I know that this is a pretty important thing to have.
