Electrical Apprenticeship at coal mine when i finish year 10?
Asked by bigal1842
I'm 15 years old and currently in year 10 in Australia, and want to try to get an electrical apprenticeship at the local coal mine after i get my school certificate. Could you please tell me what type of work is involved and what to expect when applying for the position at the end of the year. I work at a local automotive repair shop with a mechanic after school changing tires and fixing punctures and just generally learning about the trade, could this be something i could include in my resume? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Of course that will sound good on your resume. When applying, you'll take a test that perhaps you can get help with ahead of time. Check with the union at the mine, they will be real helpful. Ask to talk to an electrician there and see if a skilled trades can give you a tour of his work area. Any interest you show will noted and will advance your cause. Hopefully you think about safety on your job now and can throw that in when doing an interview. There are electrical books you might check out and review before hand. Find a reason to keep going back so you and your interest in them is known. Don't be a pest but don't let them forget you.
