ie what is the quality of life like, the hours, the pay, and what are the opportunities for people who have worked in tax and what to move out of public accounting?

Having worked on Wall Street I think I can help here. Hours are long, and moving out of public is hard, unless you want to work for a large bank or brokerage firm, i.e. private equity accounting.
