Can a legal assistant/paralegal work in a courthouse without working for a lawyer?

Yes as a Court Clerk, In Administration, Secretary to Judge, Court Administrator, Deputy Clerk, Circuit Clerk, Chancery Clerk, Municipal Clerk, County Court Clerk, Youth Court Clerk, Court Scheduler. Some of these positions may need more Schooling, In Land Records, Land Tax, Car Tags, But you get the idea.

I'm not sure, but you can probably be hired on at a large corporation in their legal department.
