How easy is it to get a job as a dietician?
Asked by jager_bombzz
I am thinking about becoming a dietician. But I was wondering, is there many job availabilities? Is it easy to get a job? Is it a promising career in the future? I am currently in nursing school and am thinking of switching. I am starting to think I would be more interested in nutrition. Do you think that would be a good idea? Nurses are in demand, and they have a prosperous future. but i'm not too sure about dieticians...

This site projects their growth to be average. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos077.htm
But a lot depends on your area. If you aren't in an area that has a demand for Dietitians, understand you might have to relocate.
I say go for it if you have an interest and aptitude in the area of nutrition

There are most likely more jobs in nursing due to the stressful nature of the work, however, it's best to go with one's passion in life and not merely work for the amount on the paycheck :) I believe that registered dieticians (RDs) need to complete an accredited program by the ADA (american dietetic association) and complete a clinical fieldwork component. There may be more jobs at hospitals or nursing homes than fitness/health clubs though it may depend on geographic location as well.
The other postee provided the bls.gov link which gives general career information. For info on accredited programs and other career info: http://www.eatright.org
