Apart from Paris , Rhone Alpes and South what are the best areas in France for employment opportunities ?

Im relocating to France and would ideally like to live within commutable distance of an area that has good employment opportunities in the Manufacturing and Services sectors . I cannot afford to live in the pricey South , Paris , Alsace or Rhone Alpes areas I have drawn up a short list of Le Mans , Bordeaux , Nantes , Poitiers but Im really not too sure . Is Brittany any good or is it just tourism and farming ? . Any suggestions in any region of France is much appreciated .

Generally, you will need to stick around the major regional poles so this would include Paris, Lyon, Marseille, Nantes. Le Mans is very provincial, Brittany has generallpy poor prospects except in Rennes or Brest. In general, the south of France is poor for job prospects,unless you are after clerk posts or manual posts. There are of course other posts but they arenot in great supply. Also the pace of life is very different there so make sure that you go somewhere which fits you culturally too. The south of France can be quite drab out side the obvious sunny seasons. The problem is that we are not too sure what job you are trying to get into. You might be able to get a good job in a small remote town. All you need is one job.

as I drove through France the area around Lyon and south of Lyon Avignon Orange Perpignan looks to be booming plenty of development going on and a population that looks prosperous

Check with the French employment agency: www.anpe.fr and with these websites: www.apec.fr (agence pour l'emploi des cadres) and www.cadremploi.fr
On all sites, you can select the kind of employment you are looking for and also select the region you want to search.
Brittany has some boatbuilding facilities and also electronics manufacture facilities (but those are reducing in number due to asian competition).
It is worth applying through the internet, just to check the possibilities, bust most employers will want to meet you in person before considering a recruitment.
