How can i go about doing Journalism whilst I'm studying teaching at uni?

Im currently at uni doing a bachelor of Education/Arts but i definatley don't want teaching to be what i do for the rest of my life. I have always wanted to dabble in fashion journalism so i'm considering doing a post grad in journalism when im finnish but i want to try and get my foot in the door now.. can i do work experience while i'm studying? and should i try writing articles and submitting them to local papers and such? People's advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Call your local newspapers or look on their web sites for their article submission guidelines. Follow submission guidelines to the letter. Consider starting your own blog relating to fashion journalism -- going to and reviewing local fashion shows, commenting on fashion trends, etc. -- to show off your writing skills.
