Most Ex. Asst. I have been associated with are simply that. They usually assist either the General Mgr, C E O or other Executives in what is usually called Administration Dept. or other titles... Each organization has it's own standards and titles as well as designating the work load for that particular office. That office (depending on the organization) times assists one, two or more offices depending upon many things.

Dear Mytsterious: Depending on which executive you're assisting, you'll need to look professional all the time. You are, after all, representing the executive's office to the rest of the company. This is a good question to ask in your interview.
If you're the administrative assistant to the sales group, and expected to get coffee for the whole sales force each day, then you may want to reconsider applying for that position.
Get a definite explanation of what the job entails, so that you can make an educated decision about the job as the interview process moves forward. Read the posted description for each job, and decide if this is something you'd want to do on a daily basis. Knowing as much you can about the job before interviewing, gives you an edge on the competition, and the ability to ask the intelligent questions when considering a future with that company.
Expect to be helpful, perform many tasks and be able to maintain your focus on being organized. The assistants of today are the MBAs of tomorrow. Good luck.
