How can I get a job working at a temporary employment agency?
Asked by midjrsy
I did a lot of temporary work back in the 1990's and I've done a couple of temporary jobs recently. I'm just wondering how I might land a job working at a temporary employment agency. The recruiters there apparently have full time jobs finding jobs for other people.

Well, I am an HR Recruiter and have that type of experience. To get into the actual hiring recruiting aspect you need experience and education. Do you have have - such as an AA degee or more in Labor Law? Do you understand payroll and benefits? Do you know labor laws? Do you have experience at interviewing and phone screening? How about new employee orientations? If you don't have any of these, then you need to go to your local community college and start with basic labor law classes and go from there.

You would need to apply for an agency that is hiring recruiters.

Temporary Staffing agencies generally have a high turnover due to the stresses of the job so they are constantly looking for people. One thing you may be able to do is to call your local agencies, and ask if they are looking for "recruiting coordinators" or "recruiting assistants". This is a good way to get in on the ground floor of a thriving business. I have worked as a recruiter for 10+ years and yo can make pretty good money at it if you know what you are doing.

I think you need to be a 'people person' and be able to coordinate people with the positions that are open. Be able to talk with employers to know exactly what kinds of employee they need/want. Then set that employer up with the applicants that come in looking for a job. It also helps if the employment agency is hiring....they always seem to have a high turn-over in employees....wonder why?
