What is the reasonable going rate for babysitting?
Asked by Rin
I'm thinking that I'm going to take a babysitting job this evening, watching my little cousins. They can be quite a chore to take on at times, and I really need money... but I don't want to ask too much. I haven't been in the babysitting business in a long time, so I'm unsure of what to ask for. What kind of pay is reasonable?

GREAT QUESTION! it depends how many kids there are and how old they are if they are like between the ages 4 - 9 and wat like 3 kids, i would say 10 - 12 dollars an hour. or two kids that age, 7 dollars an hour. but if they are younger, maybe like 8 dollars an hour for two kids. HOPE THAT HELPS! and good luck!

10-15$/hr. it somethimes depends on the person paying you. some people give you more, some less. just go with it.

It depends on how many kids there are. If it's family then $10 per kid is okay. If it's not a family member then $15-$20. Also, the age of each child should be factored into the price as well. If they are really little and require a lot of attention, then the rate can be higher then if they are, say, 7 years old and just need some supervision.

it depends on how experienced you are/how old you are. plus its family, so you can't ask for too much. i think around $7/8 an hour is reasonable. or, what i do is, i talk to the parents first and see what they are willing to offer. if they offer something lower, like $5, try compromising with them. say like, i was thinking a little higher, how about maybe $7. or you could set up an agreement where you get more money when the kids are awake and less when she is sleeping. ask the parents what they think is reasonable/what they usually charge. don't take anything ridiculously low, thats not fair to you. don't let them take advantage of you just because you are family. just try to be mature and compromise if you think it's too low. but don't be greedy!
