electrician career please help?

is a career as an electrician likely to give you a salery higher than the average wage? why is there such a high demand for people to work in the mines? is it terrible working conditions? am i better off starting a domestic electrical business or working as an industrial one for someone else, wage wise?

My better half is a Journeyman. Yes, higher salary. Yes, terrible working conditions. Better off working in commercial/industrial, IBEW Union. Commericial business better than housing. Good luck.
