Career Questions and Answers
I need some advice from truck drivers?
Asked by pumpkin
Hello. I am a soon to be 20 year old (next month) female who is considering a career in truck driving. My brother in law is a local driver and he suggested I look into it because I love to drive. I have been weighing my options lately on what career path I want to follow and Im leaning towards going to Roadmasters Truck Driving school to get my CDL. I plan on driving local since I am not even old enough to drive over the road yet, although I dont want to anyways. I was just hoping for some words of encouragement that I can actually do this. I just feel like im the only 20 year old female in the world that goes to get her CDL. The most things I am nervous about is of course not running anything over and any discrimination I might get for being a female driver. Any advice or experiences would help alot.

First you have two things against you, your age and the fact that you are a female. Don't get me wrong, I know quite a few ladies that are truck drivers and they are good at it.
To be a otr (over the road) drive you have to be 21. A lot of companies will not hire a female driver. Companies such as JB Hunt and Werner, the big companies will hire female drivers. Some of them will offer training too.
As for truck driving schools, some are good and some are bad. Check with your Better Business Bureau.
I wish you a lol.
Check with your brother in law, maybe he knows of a place and a company that will help you get started.
