Camden's Mom
How much do car dealer receptionists get paid?
Asked by Camden's Mom
I live in Houston, TX. I am going for an interview today for a receptionist position at a Ford dealership. I will be an evening receptionist. Part Time....so i am wondering what to expect the pay to be like? Thanks!

Don't know about Houston, but I would suspect it to be similar to Dallas where such jobs typically pay $7 to $9 per hour. Almost any job titled 'receptionist' is not going to be a very high paying job. Car dealerships habitually pay low because they hire unskilled labor. So if you have some skills (you can type, transcribe dictation, understand rudimentary bookkeeping principles, etc), you might want to look elsewhere. If, on the other hand, you just want a job and not a career, car dealerships are generally nice places to work. Our daughter (who is a hands on type person) started out as a receptionist at a car dealership and worked her way up to a service advisor. She loved getting in the pits and changing oil or rotating tires - mostly because the guys didn't think a petite little girly-girl could do it.
