46&2
Do you think I need to wear a suit jacket or shirt and tie ok?
Asked by 46&2
It's for a temp job at a corporation's legal department - easy office work. The agency said they just want to meet for 15-20 minutes to see me. On my last temp job, I wore a suit, but felt like a fish out of water as the people in these departments dress very business casual (jeans on fridays!). The guy training me then laughed saying I didn't need to dress up so much. I really felt embarrassed; people seemed to think "who the hell are you to dress so nicely when you're just a temp". I feel like a goon in a suit (i'm overweight right now and it's tight and looks stupid on me) and it really blows my confidence away. A shirt and tie is better, even no tie is best. Am I being too unprofessional - my temp lady said its up to me. Plus, it's hot as hell here in the city. Thanks.

ALWAYS wear a suit the first time. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Always overdress! It is much easier to take a jacket and tie off if it is casual.

Wear this: dark wash jeans a collared shirt, a DRESS Shirt (no Hollister polos) but I'd say no to a tie. A nice dress shirt and chucks seem fine dude.

shrit and a tie. bring a suit jacket with you in the car if you can, then if they are dressed nicely you can always go and get it. it doesnt hurt to look polished.

A:
just wear a formal pant and formal shirt, id consider a tie overkill too. just wear what other people in the office wear.

a shirt and tie is ok, but 15-20 min is real fast how about some slacks and a short sleeve shirt, something like this: http://www.ebazaarpk.com/images/Clothings/blue.jpg

They know you are serious if you wear the suit. I know you feel stupid & so would I. The suit is probably the best bet.

if you want the job.....make a grt8 impression......screw ...what people think///////// wear a suit......after all it s ur money!

A:
Try the shirt and tie at first then if you feel a suit is more appropriate then step it up if not take it down a notch and go with the shirts and dress slacks. If you need more suits and moneys tight try looking in thrift stores they might have something u can wear :) GL

I also work in a law office and the suited guys are the attorney's, don't do over dressed, a shirt and tie is sufficient for your job description.

A:
Wear some VERY dark jeans, a light dress shirt (light blue or white), and a fitting loose tie. Viola! Business casual.

A:
Wear a shirt and tie, take the jacket with you. If you need to kick up the professionalism, you still have the option, and that way, you can't really show up underdressed. But offices vary, so always be prepared. Best of luck!

A:
well at least you know u were dressed well... its better to be over dressed than to be underdressed! It seemed funny bcuz that office clothing was casual but the way u dressed says a lot even if it was over done, so don't feel bad anymore! It's okay. For this new place u should were a clean casual/ professional looking shirt with dress pants or dark relaxed jean or slacks of some sort with loafers or some other type shoes. U can even wear one of those sports blazer jackets or hold it in ur hand. Don't worry to much. if u can, go around there and see w at the men have on, i think u'll be fine with wat u said or wat i wrote and yes even a dress shirt with a tie :)

Skip the suit - go for smart casual. Not to casual however, skip the jeans, tee shirt and sandals - these are a definite no no. I would go for the shirt and tie (with pants and shoes of course)..

A:
At a minimum, wear a tie. It's pretty standard to dress up more for an interview that you would on the job.

A:
Find out what the dress code at the company is; go in and ask the receptionist if you can't find out otherwise. Law departments tend to be a little more conservative than other parts of the company, so if you ask the receptionist, say you will be interviewing in the law department. Then, do what she says.

A shirt and tie would be appropriate. You don't have to wear a suit. No jeans and sneakers, OK?

I think if the suit blows your confidence then a shirt and tie would be okay but if you are SURE that they company dress code is relaxed then I would go as far as to say a nice pull over cotton polo type shirt and some khaki type pants that would do I dont think it is unprofessional because I work at a law firm and sometimes the guys here were these types of outfits
