Edward H
what is the highest paying trucking company that I could drive for, I live in SC.?
Asked by Edward H
I just moved from New Jersey to South Carolina. I'm looking for a great paying trucking company to drive for. I have experience driving and I have my commercial drivers license class A CDL. I would appreciate any help anyone could give me.

Depends on how much experience you have. If it's 3-5 years with no violations, try Fed Ex, Saia, Averitt, Yellow, Estes, or any other linehaul company. They can make upwards of 70,000 per year. Over 5 years experience, try Wal Mart. Their drivers make in the same range, and their benefits are excellent. Though, many of the distribution centers in SC have been "contracted out" to Swift or Schneider, they may not hire company drivers where you are, but it may be worth a look. Try driving for a grocery warehouse. I can't recall what the big grocery chains are in SC, but if there is Kroger or Safeway, they are union and the pay is excellent. Many other grocery chains are union in the warehouses, so check around anyway. You could also try a foodservice company like Sysco, US Foodservice, MBM or PFG. It requires a lot of physical work and multiple daily stops, but if you're quick, efficient and don't mind walking your butt off, you can make good money as you're usually paid by the case, or by the stop. If you're interested in OTR, look into companies like Upstaging, Broadway Express, or Stage Show. You'd be hauling for concert tours, trade shows and museum exhibits, and other specialized, delicate or expensive freight. There is some hand-unloading and some difficult/tight places to back up into....but the pay makes it worthwhile and you are paid extra for unloading. Plus, you get to see concerts and sometimes even meet the performers for free. You get a generous daily stipend for food whenever you've got to sit in one place during a multi-day event, plus the company puts you up in a hotel, paid, whenever you sit for more than a day. If you don't mind physical work, try car hauling. If you want OTR, Waggoners will hire you with I believe just 1 year OTR, and will train you to load the cars. If you want local, look up Allied Auto Group online, and see if they have a terminal in a railyard near you. (They're the ones with the ugly green or yellow trailers and white daycabs).....they are union, pay is excellent and they will train you. Good luck :)

Look for a small family based company who will look the other way on you driving more miles to make more money.

Depends on how much OTR experience you have I would recommend a small or local company as for big companies I would look into Heartland Express.
