Is it normal for a movie theater to ask to see your social security card(to copy) when you're hired?
Asked by sweet little nothings
I dunno.. I've never had any other part-time work employers ask me for my social security card before, and this includes employment from my university. Is this normal protocol?

yeah, it's normal, they have to make sure the SS# is actually yours that you give them. and to check your past. and such.
usually theyre supposed to do it everytime you apply and get hired somewhere.

It is not uncommon for employers to ask, although it is technically illegal. But it's been done for so long it is accepted practice now.

That is normal for any job you are hired to.

Not to be argumentative about this with anyone, but ALL employers will need to see your soc card to be able to report your earnings and payments to the correct account! Copying of it is a bit unusual. I would ask them why they need a copy of it.

yes it's normal.
PS - movie theater was the BEST job I ever had (free popcorn, free movies, free movie posters, sometimes free candy when the boxes were damaged). It's hard work though cleaning up, but fun. Wish it paid more though....you will enjoy the experience.

The answer is yes and no. it depends on the experience of the employer. My thought on this is: the theater has had experience where the SS number was made up. Looking at your SS card confirms that you have one. There was a time showing the card was normal.
