What are some viable alternate careers for an Architect?
Asked by IndyArkitekt
I'm an architect with almost 6 years experience and is beginning to take the licensing exam. However, I'm questioning if this is really the field I want to remain in. I'm looking for something creative that has solid earning potential without being extremely high stress. It may be a pipe dream but I want to explore alternate careers.

I'm in similar situation as an interior designer with 8 years of commercial architecture experience at great firms. However, I want to have more client/contractor interaction, less drafting. I started exploring commercial property management companies like Jones Lang Lasalle, CB Richard Ellis & Trammell Crowe (which has merged.) PMs liase with designers/tenants/owners. Then my personal life took a turn with having a baby, so I am just now regaining opportunity to search more.

Building Code and Fire Safety Engineer... I am one, a consulting one, and we work with architects everyday... I think that would be a very possible alternative if your looking for a lower stress job that can bring in good money. With your experience as an architect you should be making 100,000+ within the first 3 or 4 years.
