Where is a nice chain sit-down restaurant to work with no previous waitressing experience?
Asked by Summer
I want to begin waitressing part-time while I finish school. I'm 20, and I have 5 years of customer service experience, but no waitressing or restaurant experience...what decent sit-down restaurant would hire me as a server?
P.s. I'll be 21 in a few weeks -- so I could serve alcohol.

Well honey I don't know where you are from but you might try some down home restaurants not chain restaurants. Remember, they usually have short cuts for items on the menu, like cheeseburger is CB. Eggs over easy is EOE. You need to ask a friend who has waitressed or maybe there is something now on line you can look at for the short hand of order taking. If you have customer service experience you are an asset to the restaurant because you KNOW the customer is always right and when he's wrong you smile and say I know your right! Good luck.

I would suggest scrapping the chain restaurant idea and instead work on getting a job at a semi fine dining restaurant as a hostess. After a few months, if you prove to be an asset, and learn the menu well, ask them to promote you to server when there is an opening. The pricier the restaurant, the better the tips. It will be worth it in the long run. =]
