Honestly, dental hygenist will make you more money, and be much more stable. There aren't a lot of jobs for a photographer these days, but people always need dental hygenists. Not to mention that it takes a shorter amount of time to complete school. Personally, I would get a degree to be a dental hygenist, then pick up photography in your spare time. Photography isn't that hard of a trade to learn on your own, and if you go to school you will have to take tons of boring classes on art history, and stuff like that. Then, once you get a camera and know-how, you can shoot some weddings, or start even smaller and shoot senior pictures, to get some experience. All the while you will have your dental hygenist job to back you up, and keep the funds rolling in. When you can finally match your salary as a photographer, you can quit your dental hygenist job if you want. I wouldn't suggest just going into photography alone though, it's just not very lucrative. And when it is - it's usually because the photographer had an "eye" or practiced a lot - not because they got a degree in it! Hope that helps!

A degree is not needed for photography, but its much harder to get a steady gig in ANY art field then dental hygeniest. Additionally, the ceiling on a photographers salary is much higher then a dental hygeniest, but the median salary for a hygeniest is much higher then a photographer. There are also a whole lot more unemployed photographers.

Those are 2 totally different fields and it is hard to compare. With photographer you earn money based on your talent, how hard you work, and some plain old good luck. Many photographers earn great money, many also work in photo studios earning a more modest income. Someone working for Vogue is going to earn a lot more than someone who is working for Kmart. Another thing, many photographers are free lance or own their won business. It is also something people do as a side job. Dental Hygiene is more steady. The employment outlook is good. You would not be self-employed. Also the salary is high, comparable to nurses. If I were you I would go into Dental Hygiene and look into doing photographer as a side business. You weigh all you options and decide what is best for you. Good luck.

A:
Dental Hygenist because the work is steady. I'll take consistent money every single week over a large windfall and weeks of not working. P.S. If you ignore your teeth, they will go away.
