How long does it take to complete RN prerequisites?
Asked by Reese76
I'm wanting to start school to become an RN. I haven't started my prerequisites yet and was wondering how long it typically takes to complete.

It all depends upon your aptitude when you begin. What I mean by that is this: if you are going to a community college, you will need to complete a placement exam that determines your level of competency in math and English.
Should you place at the collegiate level, you are doing ok and can take almost any class.
How quickly you complete your prerequisites also depends on how many classes you wish to take in any one semester. You can take as many as 18 credits at a time plus 12 more in the summer.
The focus here, however, should not be speed but high grades as they will get you into the program.

I believe it is right at 2 years. I am doing it one or two classes pers semester so it is taking me a lot longer.
The program I am looking at requires 60 hours for the prerequisites. That is pretty much a full 2 years.

This will depend on which school you are attending. Each school sets it's own prerequisite courses. As a general rule, for a community college or diploma program it will take around a year, in some cases more, dependent on how many hours you are able to carry. For a university it will take 2 years, since you need a broader foundation for a university to grant a Bachelor's degree.
