Irene
Can I be a veterinarian with a petty theft misdemeanor on my record?
Asked by Irene
The charge was "dismissed" after I completed a deferred entry of judgment program. I was 18 and I'll be applying for licensure when I'm 22. Will this mistake still allow me to be a vet?

Don't worry about a petty theft misdemeanor. If the charge was "dismissed" (I think), it lies in a sealed record ... but I'm not certain. What I do know is that a vet school does not do that type of background check before admitting a student. Gads ... it is tough enough to get into vet school ... there are only 27 or so of those schools is the US ... so only 2,700 people get selected each year. Compare that to a human doctor ... those schools are everywhere! I do wish you luck with your dreams! Uppity Wench
