Why so hard / difficult to attain employment or job in melbourne australia?
Asked by gf
Recently emigrated to melbourne from UK, (degree educated quality technician and inspector, however limited aerospace / automotive opportunities in melbourne), registered at numerous recruitment agencies for industial and customer service roles, attended interviews still no success, even with exellent written and verbal references. Just the same nonsense, not experienced enough (even when training is offered). Considering returning to Europe. Are there any employment openings / can anyone assist me? shklbg33@yahoo.com.au Also suggest an alernative career path? Is it difficult to get roles in Financial Planning once completion of the Diploma course?

Australia has a low un-employment rate at the moment, thus there are little vacancies for jobs.

If you have all the skills and experience - then your C.V. or interview skills are obviously letting you down (or your recruitment agencies are!) look at your C.V. Careerone, Seek or any of the other jobsearch websites based here in Aus have some great C.V. builders that will do it and format it for you. The main thing you need to realise is that EVERYONE uses those sites to build their C.V. You need to tell your prospective employer what sets you apart from the other candidates. Have you done this job before? Have you reached targets, resolved an issue with a difficult client? Put this stuff in your C.V. Have you got a highly organised filing system using a database or something?? Have you put down that you're a fast learner and you're willing to learn and undertake further training. Got all that? GOOD! Now HIGHLIGHT IT! Use bold, a different font etc... Just make the info that you want to set you apart from the other candidates "stand out!" Use headings, use bold, use colour! Use a font that's not TIMES NEW ROMAN or ARIAL! Just make sure that it's readable if you need to FAX IT Remember - HOW are you going to work for them! That's all they want to know! Put that kinda stuff in your C.V. Then practice the answers for interviews. What is your biggest mistake?? Where do you see yourself in 2 years? Basically they need to know what is your work ethic and work style. You need to let them know by turning up to these events wearing appropiate attire, having copies of your C.V. (even an electronic copy that you can give them if need be) copies of reports or documents that you can give them etc... Show them you're putting an effort in and chances are you'll be picked up. :)
