What is needed to become an auto mechanic?

Do I have to get a degree or is a certificate just as good? There is a school near my house that offers the program. Thanks in advance.

A certificate is good but why not ask around - things may be different in your area than in mine. I would go to places that you would like to work for and see what they had to go through to get hired on...and then follow that path - it might save you time and money.
