How can I get A+ certified, tech schools are expensive?
Asked by William
I have NO IT or hardware experience but I want to get A+ certified to break into the IT industry. I've visited some tech schools in my area but they all seem to be very expensive. Are there any alternatives I can take or other avenues? I really want to do this.

Check out your community college first. If you cannot find anything, start checking out student loan options. You will most likely get one. Unfortunately, a lot of us have to get loans. Make sure the school you choose has a placement office. Ask them their placement rate. Check them out as much as you can. Look for accreditations. Google the schools you are interested in, and see if you can find reviews. You want to find one that deals strictly in IT (not one of those schools that offers 1000 different degree programs). Do not pick an online one for this field, either. Good luck!

I graduated from a tech school 8 years ago...AAS in CAD Technology (drafting). As of 2005, no employer accepts AAS degrees for drafting positions, even with 5 years work experience in the field. If you do attend a tech school the same thing will happen to you. Your best bet is to attend classes at a university or start with a community college (less expensive). If you start out with a community college make sure your credits transfer to a university. While you're in school you might be able to intern in the IT dept of a corporation. To break into the field you will need at least a bachelors degree, even with the A+ cert because most employers will not accept less.
