Should I start out working in a Hospital?
Asked by blueyesthreeone
I would like someone with knowledge in this area to help me out. I have recently been taking a phlebotomy class and I did my clinical part of the class in a hospital. I did okay and got a good evaluation and was even told that I should apply. I am interested in finding a job in this field but I am still a little nervous about starting because I am still very inexperienced. Should I start out in a hospital setting or would it be better for me to start out in a small office or clinic?

If you don't have much experience you might have trouble finding a job in a small office, or clinic. They usually want someone with a year, or more of experience. You could call a few local places to find out.
A hospital setting is more fast past, but it would give you a ton of experience. I know someone who works in a small office, and she says that 90% of what she does is paperwork.
Whatever job you get, try to stay there at lest 1 year, (even if you hate it), so you have the experience to move on and get a good job in the setting you like.

If you want to go by my way you would better start out in a Hospital and get the experience. If you slip nothing will happen and if you slip by starting your own office then it will
be a bit difficult to recover but not impossible.

My step-daughter was in a similar situation to yours and she gained a lot of experience in a hospital, albeit it is very, very hard work.
She has now been accepted for a full blown Registered Nursing course starting September and it was only as a result of her assessments in the hospital.
Try to overcome your nervousness and take the plunge. You sound a caring person and I am sure you will do well in your chosen profession, and, a bonus of working in a hospital is that you meet and help people from all works of life as opposed to a small clinic's clientele.
My best wishes as I admire anyone in a caring profession.

it all depends on the area you are most interested in. the hospital will give you good experience . If you like it busy and high pace the hospital is best. A clinic is slower paced and the experience is limited. the hospital will give you plenty of experience and are use to inexperienced employees. just jump in. you will be great!!!!!
