I have never heard of that ever and if your in the United States and your not hired because of your name then you shouldnt need to work ever again because Id sue them.

In the tech support outsourcing jobs I have heard(on National Public Radio) about young Asians being asked to take American names and try to be as much like us as possible in their conversation.
It was discouraging to the workers, and I thought it was very annoying. To see Indians called Sam and Joe and Chris -- it was foolish. I think the practice is becoming less common. I have seen a few long names.
So my answer is...it could happen that you would be asked to use a shorter name. I doubt that you would fail to be hired because of your name. My other answer is, that I find this to be wrong. I want a person to be him or her self. Not a clone of an American. I think it is demeaning to be forced to use another name and pretend to be somebody else, and unless you want to do it, I think it is bad for your self-image, especially if you are young.
All of that said, I hope you get the job that you want and that the terms of employment are agreeable to you. I think the qualified people are usually hired...yes, I hope that is true. It seems to be.
